Welcome to TT2026 in Leiden, The Netherlands
Welcome to Leiden for TT2026
We are delighted to invite you to the historic city of Leiden, the Netherlands, for the 20th Transgenic Technologies Meeting 2026. In line with the previous TT meetings, we’re aiming for an exciting scientific programme on all aspects of transgenic technologies, all biology underlying and enabling these techniques and their use in biomedical and other research. There will be talks and sessions aimed at the full ISTT membership. As always, there will be extensive attention to the 3Rs, alternatives and the ethical implications of transgenic models.
For centuries Leiden has been at the centre of science in the Netherlands and beyond. The University in Leiden was founded in 1575 during the Eighty Years’ War which led to the formation of the Netherlands as a country, and academic freedom is therefore in the university’s DNA. The work of scientific giants, including René Descartes and Galileo Galilei was published here for this reason. Since then, many Leiden alumni have made significant contributions to various scientific fields, and 16 Nobel Prize laureates did their groundbreaking work in Leiden or spent extensive time here. This open exchange of ideas makes Leiden a perfect fit for hosting a TT Meeting, and we hope you will join us here.
Leiden is renowned for its museums, including several winners of the European Museum of the Year Award, and other major cities in the Netherlands are within easy reach thanks to an efficient public transport system. Through our social programme we hope to give you an idea of the charm and history of the city of Leiden.
We look forward to welcoming you to Leiden in September 2026 for TT2026.
Sincerely,
Dr. Peter Hohenstein (Chair of the Local Organising Committee), Conny Brouwers, Jill Claassens, Margot Linssen, Sam van der Ploeg
